Pernottamento

Hotel Cala Luna
Cala Gonone

Benvenuti in Sardegna!

After arriving at the airport we shuttle you to your first hotel on the sea in Cala Gonone. After having briefed you in detail about the tour, you can try the bikes by reaching the beautiful beach of Cala Fuili. If you have time in the afternoon, we suggest you rent a zodiac or kayaks to visit the enchanting beach of Cala Luna, one of the most magical places in the Mediterranean! In the evening, enjoy an al fresco dinner in front of the sea and a relaxing walk along the Cala Gonone seafront.

DAY 2

Activity

Cycling
Distance 62km
Climb 1200mt

Accommodation

Hotel Agugliastra
S.M. Navarrese

From Cala Gonone to Santa Maria Navarrese

The legendary road SS125 will be the setting for this glorious ride in the heart of Supramonte massif. It's the most demanding stage of this adventure, but perhaps the most beautiful, with unforgettable scenarios that will remain etched in your memory. The elevation design of the stage is very simple, a long climb of 25 kilometers and a long descent of 40 kilometers. So you start to climb immediately, the first 5 kilometers are the most challenging, while for the next 20 kilometers the climb is gradual and never hard. From 1000 meters above sea level of the Passo Genna 'e Silana pass, a gradual descent will begin that will bring you sinuously back to the sea. The views you will enjoy in this stage are varied and breathtaking, from the cliffs overlooking the sea of Cala Gonone, to the fertile Oddoene Valley, from the wild Gorroppu canyon to the mountain pastures of Urzulei, up to the sea of Baunei in the seaside hamlet of Santa Maria. DAY 3

Activity

Cycling
Distance 55km
Climb 900mt

Accommodation

Hotel Su Marmuri
Ulassai

From S.M. Navarrese to Ulassai

The day begins along the beaches of the Arbatax coast, then we move towards the interior of the Ogliastra region, finishing the stage under the looming limestone plateaus that make this territory unique. The first part of the day is very easy and relaxing, among long beaches and lush gardens. But in the last part of the day the route rears up going up from the coast towards the mountain, through Cannonau vineyards and the famous rocky cliffs that create the characteristic plateaus covered with dense woods. The day ends in Ulassai, a small mountain village famous for its fabulous rock ways among climbers from half of Europe. But this is also the village that gave birth to the artist Maria Lai, who right here experimented with the revolutionary concept of relational work of art "Legarsi alla Montagna" (binding to the mountain), a monument to the memory of the living people, as she called it, which we invite you to discover in the Stazione dell'Arte Museum (www.stazionedellarte.com/en).

DAY 4

Activity

Cycling
Distance 55km
Climb 800mt

Accommodation

Orlando Hotel
Villagrande Strisaili

From Ulassai to Villagrande Strisaili

Today a beautiful day awaits you along the western slope of Gennargentu, the main mountain massif of the island. We suggest you stock up on food and water before leaving Ulassai, in fact, a wonderful area awaits you, but where you won't find a single bar for over 30km. Immediately after Ulassai, cross the village of Osini, followed by the ghost town of Osini Vecchio, abandoned in 1951 following a terrible flood that brought its inhabitants to their knees. From the village of Gairo Taquisara we leave the Pardu valley and begin to climb the slopes of Gennargentu, this is the only noteworthy climb of the day, which continues for about 10 kilometers, taking us over a thousand meters of altitude. The route winds through woods and pastures, with a view of the characteristic rock spire of Perda 'e Liana, the true totem of this territory. The last part of the route goes around Lake Bau Muggeris, before reaching the large wood of Santa Barbara, where our hotel awaits us.

DAY 5

Activity

Cycling
Distance 45km
Climb 800mt

Accommodation

Sa Orte Hotel
Fonni

Villagrande Strisaili a Fonni

Here is another beautiful mountain stage, always along the western slope of the Gennargentu. Compared to the previous day's stage we will find less wood and much more pasture, and the profiles of the mountains become less harsh. But even today it will be better to get food and water before departure. At the Arcu Corr'e Boi pass, we reach the highest point of the whole tour, 1200 meters above sea level, from which you will enjoy a beautiful view over the whole valley. In Fonni a welcoming hotel awaits you in the old center village, which will delight you also for dinner with the flavors of the Barbagia cuisine.

DAY 6

Activity

Cycling
Distance 55km
Climb 650mt

Accommodation

Agriturismo Guthiddai
Oliena

Dinner

Traditional Dinner Included

From Fonni to Oliena

The last stage takes you through Barbagia and some of its symbolic villages. After leaving Fonni, we visit Mamoiada, the town of the Cannonau, the wine that makes us live 100 years old. You can enjoy a wine tasting at the Sedilesu Winery, one of our favorites ones. Or you can even visit the Museum of Mediterranean Masks, which shows millennia of history and traditions and centuries of celebrations and rituals, shared by various ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean. The museum focuses on the widespread use of wooden masks worn on the face, with animal and grotesque shapes, as well as sheep and ram skins, cowbells, and other objects that make deafening sounds. In the rural and pastoral community, these customs were thought to influence the fate of the agricultural year: despite their frightening appearance, their long-awaited visit was welcome and was seen as an opportunity to make them propitious, offering them food and wine. Then we pass through Orgosolo, the town of the Murales, which paints its history and other important moments in contemporary world history on the walls of the houses. Finally Oliena, another important center of Barbagia, nestled at the foot of the Supramonte, which enjoys a fertile countryside washed by the Cedrino river and preserves ancient craft traditions. Despite the length and the mountainous territory, the route doesn't present long climbs or particularly challenging sections.

Ottima esperienza a prezzi ragionevoli. Consigliato.

Tour "Expedition Across Sardinia" molto ben organizzato e gestito.
